Introduction

There is great spiritual hunger today. Due to this busy and crowded world, people today generally look for wisdom and inspiration to inspire theruselves and others to greatness and significance. In the society that we live in everything is happening in a jiffy and people are often overwhelmed by the emptiness and meaningless of many of the things that happen all around them. There is a severe scarcity of mindful and truly inspiring material to engage individuals in the pursuit of what really matters – the great deeds that can create benefit to individuals and society that can truly makes a difference. This is where words of wisdom or words of inspiration can inspire us and move us forward in the right direction and help us live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, yet it seems that words and phrases also have a very deep and most powerful impact on the mind and the heart. It is said, and rightly so, that language can be a powerful force. It can create war or build peace. Words can be powerful motivators. We can use them to bless or curse others; encourage or discourage; hearten or dishearten; embolden or frighten; exhilarate or dispirit; inspire or deprecate. Unfortunately, we often don’t think about the words we use or the words we hear. We simply talk and listen (often far more of the former and less of the latter than would be good for us).

We as a community are faced with a noticeable absence of principles and of character, of truth and of purpose, of courage and of wisdom, and a host of other missing values and principles to guide individuals to something more than simple survival and self-interest. These stand in the way of humanness, purpose, profit, survival and prosperity.

When the mind and emotions reach a level that requires comforting, there is always need for being cheered up and that is where words of wisdom come in handy. There is no doubt that those words of wisdom can help you overcome many types of feelings including those of disappointment and even sadness and when a mishap occurs, there is perhaps nothing quite as soothing as listening to words of wisdom. Just a kind word or two, and any kind of words of wisdom or inspiration will cheer us up, and almost everyone does feel the need to be cheered up at some point of time or the other in their lives. Words of wisdom can help us overcome mishaps, disappointments, or sadness. Sometimes one may read an entire book or an article or listen to a lecture of the Ulama but find just one or two words of wisdom in that to awaken some hidden reality. Sometimes even a word of wisdom that is written on a wall will inspire us!

With this in mind, in translating this work, “Golden Words of Wisdom”, we seek to fill the gaps with the insights and wisdom of great individuals who in their words and by their deeds and efforts moved the world and course of culture and history in some significant way. The golden words or pearls of wisdom found in this book are the Words and Commands of Almighty Allah عَزَّ وَجَلَّ, of the beloved Prophet of Alläh, Sayyiduna wa Mawlana Rasulullah صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, the Ambiyah عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ, of the Khulafa-e-Rashidun, the Awliya and Swalihin ضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ, and the great Scholars of Islam, the great Sufi Masters ضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ, who were in no doubt inspired with Divine Knowledge and imparted their words of wisdom that affected the hearts of people and brought about change. They are fully aware of the conditions of the hearts and the spiritual status of individuals.

In this book are many hidden gems that we hope you will take a good “look in the mirror” and reflect on what’s really Important today. This book also answers our spiritual needs and deep inner questions. We hope you will find at least one great thought that stimulates, challenges, comforts, or inspires you. And the really great thing about sharing words of wisdom… they don’t cost us anything, nor do we need any advanced skills to share a kind word. We encourage you to explore how certain words of wisdom have caused you to shift your perspective on a topic and/or to express a positive quality in your life. Or perhaps you will find here words that are enriching, inspiring, motivating, and uplifting in some way and can help you live a kinder and more peaceful life.

This book is written with the hope that it will inspire, uplift, and help those who are in need of inspiration and wisdom. In addition, it is published to create a hope that it will strengthen the faith in Almighty Allah عَزَّ وَجَلَّ, and uplift our hearts, our thoughts and ultimately our actions to a greater good.
